The island is within sight of the mainland; in fact, it's a peak in a mountain chain which lies south of Cairns.

Fitzroy Island is surrounded by a part of the Great Barrier Reef system. It is excellent for snorkeling, diving and exploring the reef. There are many beautiful white sand beaches, which are great for swimming and water sports.
